A smart home that answers to you, not the cloud.

IONA designs and installs private, local-first home automation — lighting, climate, security, leak protection and the network beneath it all — engineered with the discipline of a studio data center.

Approach

Built to keep working.
Even when the internet doesn't.

Most smart homes are a collection of apps that depend on someone else's servers. Ours run inside your walls, on hardware you own.

Local by design

Control runs on a dedicated system in your home. Instant response, no subscriptions, and your data stays put.

Infrastructure-grade

Proper racks, power protection, monitoring and documentation — the same standards used where downtime isn't an option.

One calm interface

A single, beautifully designed control surface for the whole home — on wall panels, phones and voice.

Supported for the long run

Systems are maintained, updated and backed up by the person who built them. You always know who to call.

Interface

One calm screen for the whole household.

Every IONA home gets a custom control surface for wall panels, phones and tablets. It handles the house, and the family schedule that runs it.

Systems

Everything in the home, working as one.

01

Lighting

Lights that know who is in the room, not just that something moved. They follow you through the house, stay on while you sit still and read, and adjust their scenes to the time of day and the season.

02

Climate

Room-by-room comfort that reacts to occupancy, weather and schedule.

03

Security, access & intercom

Locks, cameras, garage and doorbell intercom — recorded locally, never sold.

04

Private voice control

Voice commands processed in the home, without a big-tech assistant listening in.

05

Water protection that knows a shower from a burst pipe

Most leak detectors wait for water on the floor. IONA pays attention to the water moving through your pipes. It learns your home's rhythm, tells a morning shower from a flushing toilet or a running kitchen faucet, and keeps a week of history on how your home uses water. So it knows the difference between a long, hot shower and a pipe that's quietly letting go. Floor sensors still stand guard under sinks and appliances, just in case.

  • Water starts runningRecognized as a shower, a flush or a faucet
  • Steady flow that matches nothing in the houseThe main valve closes on its own
  • A slow, quiet drip somewhereFlagged before it stains a ceiling
  • Leaving for vacationWater secured until you're back
06

A calendar that runs the house

The family calendar doesn't just remind you. It drives the home. Events on the schedule set the house up ahead of time, so nobody has to remember to.

  • Family trip on the calendarAway mode, alarm armed, heat set back
  • Guests arriving FridayGuest suite warmed, porch lights on at dusk
  • 6 AM flightGentle wake-up lights and coffee at 4:30
  • No school todayWeekday morning routine skipped
07

A garage that knows which car is home

The house recognizes each car as it comes up the driveway and opens that car's garage door. No remote, no app, no reaching for your phone.

  • Your car pulls into the drivewayYour bay opens, not the one next to it
  • Heading out for the dayThe door opens as you walk to the car
  • Door opened but no car came inCloses itself after a few minutes
  • Any open or closeA quiet alert on your phone
08

Whole-home network

The foundation under everything: enterprise-grade Wi-Fi and segmented networking that keeps every device fast, reliable and isolated from the rest.

About

Built by a post-production chief engineer.

For 30 years I designed and built mission-critical infrastructure for post-production studios: the data centers, render farms and production systems behind commercials for brands like Verizon, Nike, Coca-Cola, Ford, American Express and ADT. That infrastructure supported 3D, 2D and Flame artists across multiple floors.

In that world, when the infrastructure fails, everything stops. My job was making sure it didn't. IONA brings that same standard of reliability into your home, designed and installed by a Princeton engineer who stands behind every system.
